Teach your Basset to Swim

Greyfriars Canine Hydrotherapy Pool, located on the Hog's Back between Guildford and Farnham was the venue.

Eight bassets were in attendance with various owners, 1 mongrel "friend" and 2 members of the Greyfriars staff.

The two staff encouraged "first-timers" and helped owners get to grip with the technicalities of the floatation jackets.

As all the bassets needed the same size jacket and they only had 8 of them, the group was split into 2 parties. This worked out fine because it allowed the bassets to swim for a bit then rest awhile.

Some owners went in. Others opted not to but the ensuing scenes could be best described as madness and mayhem!

Every basset did swim, though some enjoyed it more than others. Boy bassets were generally braver than the girlies and needed less encouragement.

Those who were less keen still had a fantastic time running around the edge of the pool and checking out the other bassets!

Maddy the mongrel, having a leggier advantage, made it all look effortless and ran about the entire time - being largely ignored by the bassets who viewed her boundless energy with disdain.

Time went all too quickly and soon the hour was up and it was time to dry off and head for home - a great time was had by all.
